About Us

Loy Kandahar Reconstruction Organization (LKRO)

Loy Kandahar Reconstruction Organization (LKRO)  is a registered member-based, not-for-profit, non-political and non-religious charity organization founded in 1992 by a group of intellectuals inside Afghanistan.  Their goals are to advance education, provide educational opportunities/facilities for Afghan girls and boys, enhance the capacities and daily living conditions of the most vulnerable marginalized families through provision of basic health services, training and creating employment/livelihood opportunities inside Afghanistan. Moreover, LKRO members believe that individuals, working in solidarity and with integrity of purpose and action, can affect positive change in the world through education, poverty reduction and the promotion of social justice and human rights.

LKRO has currently presence in 18 provinces of Afghanistan and has completed more than 185 large, small and medium size projects in the last 27 years of its operation in Afghanistan.

  These are in the sectors of health (disability, nutrition, health education etc.), sustainable community development, Livelihood, Youth Empowerment, Child Protection, Research Studies, Education, Environment and Capacity Building of CDCs, DDA, Youths and Governmental Employees.

LKRO is a national NGO established in 1992 and registered with Ministry of Economy under License No.183 and is an active member of ACBAR and SWABAC NGOs Coordinating Bodies.

Mission:

To empower individuals, communities, grassroots civil society organizations and promote gender equity by improving development indicators pertaining to poverty reduction, WASH, health, education, human rights, environment and livelihood support to individuals and / or families in desperate need.

Governance Structure:

LKRO is governed by the advisory council consists of (6) well known Afghan personalities living in Afghanistan representing local communities’ interest. This council acts as liaison between the local communities and the management committee of LKRO.

Management Structure:

The management committee is the executive wing of LKRO governing body. It is headed by a director and assisted by technical and administrative support staff. The committee attracts and secures the support and confidence of the local community, UN/donor agencies and other bilateral and multilateral bodies.More
